Finland is the second most unsafe country in the EU for women. We renewed the website for Naisten Linja (Women’s Line) to make information and help more accessible. Special attention was given to mobile views, as it is crucial for navigation to be smooth and fast when someone is in a critical situation. Unfortunately, many users arrive at the site in circumstances where quick action is a matter of survival. The core strength of Naisten Linja's website lies in the quality and comprehensiveness of its information about violence. Beyond advocating for societal change, a key part of Naisten Linja's mission is reaching women who have experienced violence. Receiving support as early as possible is vital—often a literal matter of life and death for those affected.

More than half of women (57%) have experienced physical violence, sexual violence, or threats. One in three women has faced physical violence, threats of it, or sexual violence in a relationship. Half of women in relationships have experienced psychological abuse, and a third have been subjected to stalking. Around 15 women are killed annually by their current or former partners in Finland.
The redesign of Naisten Linja's website was carried out with user needs at the forefront. We improved the user experience by enhancing navigation and structuring website content more logically. Service pages were unified and cross-linked to ensure clear navigation across the site.
Previously, the website's service paths were inconsistent, and key functions (call, chat, book an appointment, and donate) were not prominently displayed. These functions were moved to a central location within the navigation menu, ensuring they are readily available on all subpages.
An in-depth initial analysis also revealed shortcomings in visual storytelling. To address this, we created reusable components with clear visuals and easily scannable information hierarchies, enhancing the user experience. The technical platform chosen was Contentful, a Headless CMS familiar to the client. The site's static generator is GatsbyJS. Headless architecture enables the continued development of separate components and ensures a long lifecycle.
A user-centered and thoughtful design ensures the site’s longevity and, most importantly, brings help closer to those who need it most.
