We designed the visual and content renewal of Ilomantsi’s brand based on the municipality’s strategic guidelines. The appearance of Finland’s easternmost municipality needed to be not only recognizable and distinctive but also aligned with the marketing look of the North Karelia Regional Council while maintaining a clear, unique identity of its own. This identity became an easy-to-use tool, supported by a refreshed look and brand guidelines, a social media channel and content strategy, visual templates, and a renewed website design. Together, these enable Ilomantsi to spread its message of joy.

As a content guiding principle, Nitro created the brand promise “Iloksi ihan jokaisen” (“For the joy of everyone”), which was found in the chorus of a song created for the municipality. The phrase was turned into a modular communication tool that allows the municipality to communicate its various advantages in a streamlined manner.
With this three-word summary, we transformed the municipal strategy into the essence of the new Ilomantsi brand. It shaped the thinking behind the visual identity, the communication style, and the way the brand speaks. In Ilomantsi, everyone is welcome to live, visit, work and enjoy themselves in an enterprising community interacting with unique nature.
The updated brand had to reflect the municipality’s core values: fairness, cost-efficiency, responsibility, inclusivity, and leadership, while embodying the spirit of North Karelia. We decided to position these values as content-strategic categories and focus on the uniquely Karelian spirit and pride in what makes Ilomantsi special.
Everything began with the municipality’s strategic guidelines and brand design, culminating in a new brand and identity. We designed and delivered a turnkey solution that made everyday communication easy for Ilomantsi. Iterative work and tailored implementation were carried out in close collaboration with the client.
